Our Administrative Board has called us, the members of First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson, into a time of discernment. This will be our intentional opportunity to seek the Lord’s will regarding our congregation’s denominational affiliation. This time of discernment is not about seeking human knowledge; instead, this period will involve diving into God’s Word, trusting His Holy Spirit, and seeking the Lord’s insight and direction. Scripture tells us “if you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you.” (James 1:5a, NLT). We trust in this promise. You will be receiving a prayer calendar in the near future for September and October in hope that it will serve as a means for discerning God’s will for our church through daily times of prayer and scripture. Each day provides a scripture and a suggested focus for your time of prayer. We encourage you to follow this prayer guide with your family, as well as your Sunday school class, small group, or Bible study. In prayer, God shares himself and His benefits with us. We must open ourselves to His guidance through this process.
