  • loving bisd

Churches partner with schools in Brazosport ISD through Loving BISD. Volunteers can serve in a variety of ways:

“We have churches who serve a lunch or breakfast meal each month to the school staff. We have many mentors who work within the mentoring programs that are established on campuses. We have volunteers who help with our Brighter Bites program, which is associated with the Houston Food Bank, to provide families with fresh produce as well as menus for preparing those foods. They sort, bag, and deliver the bags to the cars of parents who are part of the program. We also have a backpack program that sends snacks home with hungry students on Fridays so they will have plenty to eat over the weekend. Some volunteers transport the backpacks from the school to the Dream Center, where they at filled, and then transport them back to each school on Thursday. We have volunteers who listen to children read, tutor students in math, help in the library, monitor the cafeteria, and much more.”

The goal of Loving BISD is to find at least one church partner for every one of their 19 schools. For more information, click here.

UMCOR also provides technical support and training for partners to address emerging and ongoing issues related to disaster relief, recovery, and long-term health and development.
